Sidewalk
Volmir Cordeiro Sidewalk
Dance
Sidewalk, piece for six performers, is a way to evoke the metamorphosis as the only means for accessing freedom. By restituting the vivid energy of "becoming", Sidewalk invests the joy as a form of individual and collective blossoming. After creating the duo Street with Washington Timbó, in 2015, Volmir Cordeiro approaches the sidewalk as a privileged space for the circulation of worlds, works, norms, contacts, parties and stagnation. In an ongoing quest for contradictory body states - recurring strategy in his work - Sidewalk researches "breaking dead ends", creating conditions for things to pass and, thus, authorizing the passage as a celebration. A work scene, a procession that does not deny its vulgarity, a disordered stroll that leads us to a walking trance. To escape the helplessness and exclusion that govern the tragedy of the current world, the dancers continuously transform, mask or unmask, and exit themselves through the shared experience of a passing ecstasy.
