Carlota Lagido will share images and reflections on the project O Lugar do Meio, focusing on artistic practice and experimentation within the context of encounters fostered by artistic residencies. O Lugar do Meio is a privately run space located in the village of Alfafar, in the municipality of Penela, where Carlota Lagido, the project’s mentor and artistic director, and Nuno Patinho, its technical director, live. The village is surrounded by forest and native woodland, crossed by traditional dry stone limestone walls. The presentation spaces include natural settings, public and private threshing floors, the Jardim da Preciosa, and an indoor studio.
The main line of activity at O Lugar do Meio centres on a regular transdisciplinary programme, with a special emphasis on contemporary dance and improvised music within the context of artistic residencies, through process presentations, concerts, and performances that also intertwine rural, traditional, and collective environmental practices. Each presentation is an opportunity to meet the public around the table, fostering debate, critical thinking, and conviviality.
Above all, O Lugar do Meio is a home — a space inhabited by people, animals, and artists — and a place of continuous celebration.
