About
Circular was set up as a Cultural Association in 2006, having informally started its activity in 2004. Based in Vila do Conde, it has been organising the Circular Performing Arts Festival every year since 2005 and the Resident Artist project since 2012. As of 2018, it is developing a new Educational Programme, following the conclusion of the Derivas Artísticas Educational Activities Programme, developed between 2008 and 2017.
Circular - Associação Cultural's central aims are to publicise contemporary performing arts, bring performing arts closer to audiences and the local context, support artistic creation and encourage reflection on contemporary artistic practices.
The Circular Festival of Performing Arts proposes the presentation and dissemination of experimental performance proposals, in a close relationship with the creative processes.
The Festival presents creations that cover different artistic areas such as contemporary dance, performance, theatre, music and visual arts. Seeking to establish a dialogue close to the artistic community that also has repercussions on the relationship with the local context and its audiences, Circular promotes and supports the development of local artistic residencies.
Circular's Education Programme develops educational activities in schools, promotes debates and raises awareness of contemporary art.
The Resident Artist project aims to explore a close relationship between the Circular association and its associated artists: Joclécio Azevedo, Filipe Caldeira and the Supernova Ensemble project. Artista Residente realises local intervention projects developed by the artists and supports the dissemination and production of their creations.
Circular is funded by: Vila do Conde Town Council and the Portuguese Republic Culture/ Directorate-General for the Arts.
