Joclécio Azevedo. Brazil, 1969. Lives and works in Porto since 1990. His work focuses on the use of writing in artistic practice as a gesture, material, or fictional device. He was artistic director of the Núcleo de Experimentação Coreográfica between 2006 and 2011. He was a member of the plenary board of the GDA (Artists' Rights Management Cooperative) since 2008 and was a member of the Board of Curators of the GDA Foundation from 2010 to 2017. Resident artist at Circular Associação Cultural since 2012, having also coordinated the association's educational program between 2018 and 2023. During his training, in 1993, he completed the professional theater course at Balleteatro and joined their dance company in several productions. As a performer and choreographer, he participated in various productions of BCN – Ballet Contemporâneo do Norte between 2012 and 2021. He collaborated with several artistic training programs, such as FAICC – Advanced Training in Performance and Choreographic Creation, of Companhia Instável, Oficina ZERO, and Balleteatro Escola Profissional. In 2016, he was a guest assistant in the Specialization Course in Performance at FBAUP. From 2016 to 2018, he collaborated with the group Sintoma – Performance, Investigation and Experimentation, supervised by Rita Castro Neves and developed by i2ADS at FBAUP. His work as a performer and/or choreographer has been presented in Portugal, France, Germany, Spain, Belgium, Switzerland, Scotland, England, Slovakia, India, Romania, Brazil, and Poland. He is the author, co-author, or contributor to publications on the performing arts, including: Intensive Care (2013), Intermittency (2016), Documentary (2018), ARK Porto – School at the Edge of Nowhere (2012, with Inês Moreira), and Ways to Use (2022). He is currently pursuing a PhD in Contemporary Art at the College of Arts, University of Coimbra.
Created in 2022 Supernova Ensemble is an artistic collective dedicated to innovative music in performative, new media and sonic arts fields in a new work context to develop and serve new audiences. With a diverse artistic and musical background (jazz, classical, modern, improv, experimental, electronic, new media, technological,...) the group pretends to build a world in which powerful new sonic ideas flow freely across genres and media, including music, theater, dance, video, electroacustic, chamber music, sound installations, etc.
Supernova Ensemble is based in the north of Portugal as an independent artistic project incubated in the Cultural Association Circular’s Resident Artist program.
