The discipline of creation or engineering involves a navigation along a fissure.
Such dwelling becomes even more apparent when logico-mathematical structures are tooled in the construction of works of art. The autonomy and polarity between the discipline that forms signification, and the discipline that signifies form, produces an intractable phenomenological gap between the vectors pointing to a work, and the vectors coming out of it. Gesture and Synthesis, that places itself and thrives in a hybrid space between performance and installation, music and new media art, is thus a piece overtly working along such fissure by exploring the tooling of logico-mathematical structures under the guise of materiality and plasticity — which amounts to say that this piece, like any other, is about what it is.

Diogo Tudela (Porto) is a researcher and programmer whose practice dwells in critical software development, simulation practices, model theory, geometry, diagrams, and mechatronics. His latest work has been addressing vocal synthesis and manipulation technologies as retro bioengineering tactics responsible for rendering new body diagrams. He lectures at the School of Arts — UCP.

Created in 2022, Supernova Ensemble is an artistic collective dedicated to innovative music in performative, new media and sonic arts fields in a new work context to develop and serve new audiences. With a diverse artistic and musical background  (jazz, classical, modern, improv, experimental, electronic, new media, technological,...) the group pretends to build a world in which powerful new sonic ideas flow freely across genres and media, including  music, theater, dance, video, electroacustic, chamber music, sound installations, etc.

Supernova Ensemble is based in the north of Portugal as an independent artistic project incubated in the Cultural Association Circular’s Resident Artist program.
