This performance seeks to bring the music of the Supernova Ensemble into dialogue with a visual and sonic curatorship by programmer and researcher Daniel Ribas, developed from the cinema of Sandro Aguilar. Approaching cinema as an elastic and expanded art form, four films by the Portuguese filmmaker, made between 2013 and 2015, will be placed in dialogue with one another, with their sounds, and with the original music, in a space surrounded by four screens.
Jewels (2013), Dive: Approach and Exit (2013), False Twins (2014) and Undisclosed Recipients (2015) form a body of experimental documentary work in which human beings take part in an experience shared by other beings, seemingly on equal terms. And yet, the world created in these films is claustrophobic: there is not enough air, and all living or dead agents seem trapped within the confines of science and history. How can we find a way out of this labyrinth? Can we escape our own mortality? In fact, it is cinema itself, through its tight framing and obsessive editing, that leaves us breathless.
